Selecting the right oil – A guide to Bertin oils

Posted by Chemlink in Personal Care Products | 0 comments

Since ancient times, oils for hair and skin have been sought for use in beauty treatments. The modern world is no different, but it can often be difficult to choose or know which oils go with which application.

We here at Chemlink have represented Bertin for several years in the UK market. Bertin produce a range of  premium quality oils in both Virign and Refined form, especially for the cosmetic and personal care market place. They carefully, yet strictly source only the finest raw materials, never from exploited, depleted or protected stocks. Bertin’s refining process is a mild process that has been approved by ECOCERT, whilst their virgin process delivers a mild and efficient filtration giving quality over quantity produced.

Instead of plucking directly for the Sweet Almond or Sunflower oil, Bertin’s range offers so much more for the consumer. These oils could offer your formulation a wholly natural silicone replacement, remedial effects, moisturisation or even extend the life of a skin’s tan.

So which oil is right for you and your formulation in their vast range?

It can be time-consuming to research the applications for each oil, or even to discover oils that could be suited to your formulation.

The characteristics of each oil is defined by the fatty acid composition, which dictates how the skin or hair will feel, but generally speaking oils for hair and skin will feel like satin or velvet. Some oils will contain essential oils such as Omega-3 which help leave skin feeling nourished.

 Skin Care

Bertin have strived for achieving oils that tackle dry skin which cause skin to feel uncomfortable and tight. Oils such as Refined Rice Bran Oil (Oryza sativa Oil), Virgin Avocado Oil (Persea gratissima Oil) and Virgin Walnut Oil (Juglans regia Oil) all soothe and moisturise dry skin whilst leaving a soft, smooth feel to the skin.

Inflammation of the skin can occur through dry skin conditions such as dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis which makes the skin wholly uncomfortable for the sufferer with patches of dry skin around areas of the body. Formulations containing Refined Echium Oil (Echium plantagineum Oil), Virgin Apricot Kernel Oil (Prunus armeniaca Oil), Virgin Hemp Seed Oil (Cannabis sativa Oil) or Virgin Sisymbrium Seed Oil (Sisymbrium irio Oil) all help to relieve the irritation caused by inflamed skin.

The repairing of skin from itching inflamed or dry skin has also been looked at by Bertin. Oils such as Refined Baobab Oil (Adansonia Oil) and Virgin Moringa Oil (Moringa oleifera Oil) help to promote the skins natural ability to heal itself.

Some oils aim at improving the skins natural membrane fluidity, helping to keep essential fatty acids and water in the skin to keep it soft and moisturised. Bertin offers Refined Coriander Oil (Coriandrum sativum Oil), Refined Grapeseed Oil (Vitis vinifera Oil), Refined Meadowfoam Oil (Limnanthes alba Oil) and Virgin Hibiscus Oil (Hibiscus sabdariffa Oil) to help boost and improve the skins natural balance, whilst leaving it soft and moisturised.

Refined Meadowfoam Oil also naturally boost micro-circulation of the skin enabling valuable nutrition in the blood stream to reach the skin where it can be used to help provide an improved skin condition.

Anti-aging has seen a real boost from marketing in the last few decades and Bertin can offer oils that can help aid in the slowing down of the aging process. They can offer Refined Echium Oil (Echium plantagineum Oil), Virgin Apricot Kernel Oil (Prunus armeniaca Oil) and Virgin Nyamplung Oil (Calophyllum inophyllum Oil). Virgin Nyamplung Oil goes one step above and beyond by combating photo-aging caused by ultraviolet light. As the skin ages it also tends to lose a degree of elasticity, Bertin have created Corylol (Corylus avellana Oil) to help retain the skins elasticity. Corylol is a Virgin Hazelnut oil that has been specially optimised for it’s function.

Virgin Nyamplung Oil will also help boost Sun Protection Factor values (SPF) when incorporated into sunscreen formulations, whilst an oil like Refined Passion Fruit Seed Oil (Passiflora incarnata Oil) helps soothe the skin and prevents burning when formulated into an after -sun product.

Hair Care

Virgin and Refined Broccoli Seed Oils (Brassica oleracea Oil) are marvellous oils for hair and skin care formulations thanks to one unique property they posses. Both these oils mimic the feel and volatility of silicones when formulated into personal care or cosmetic products.

Refined Baobab oil (Adansonia Oil) helps to aid in the repair and moisturisation of dry hair in shampoo and conditioner formulations, reducing the brittleness.

An itchy scalp can often be attributed to dandruff but with Refined Sandalwood Oil (Amyris balsamifera Oil) it can help reduce the itch whilst softening the scalp through moisturisation. Refined Sandalwood Oil will also help condition and soften the hair when formulated into hair care applications.

All the oils we have mentioned above are just a small introduction, selection and guide to application and uses of Bertin’s premium quality oils for hair and skin. Since 1936, they have been searching the world over for the finest new oils and discovering their application into the personal care market and today is no different.
